From 6 weeks
Confirms the pregnancy is within the uterus, checks the heartbeat and the number of babies, and provides reassurance after bleeding or previous loss.

Attend with a comfortably full bladder. A transvaginal scan may be offered for a clearer view in very early pregnancy, always with your consent.
8–12 weeks
Establishes an accurate due date by measuring the baby, and confirms an ongoing single or multiple pregnancy.

Measures the fluid at the back of the baby's neck as part of first-trimester screening, alongside an early structural review.

A short scan to determine the baby's sex, with a wellbeing check and heartbeat confirmation included.

A detailed head-to-toe review of the baby's development, the placenta, the cord and the fluid around the baby.

Measures the baby and estimates weight, plotting growth against the expected range for your stage of pregnancy.

26–32 weeks
Three-dimensional still images and live 4D video of the baby's face and features, with printed images to take home.

No preparation required, but drinking plenty of water in the two days beforehand improves image quality. The clearest pictures are usually obtained between 26 and 32 weeks. If the baby is facing away or lying low, we will offer a repeat appointment at no additional charge.
26–32 weeks
The 3D/4D imaging session combined with a full wellbeing assessment: heartbeat, movement, fluid volume, placental position and cord blood flow.

From 12 weeks
A longer appointment allowing each baby to be assessed individually for growth, position, fluid and wellbeing.

No preparation required. Please allow extra time, because two babies take longer to examine than one.
Good to know
One adult guest is welcome in the room. Please let us know when you book if you would like to bring children, so we can plan the appointment.
Babies move, sleep and hide. If we cannot complete the examination we will offer a repeat appointment at no additional charge.
A private scan complements, and does not replace, the antenatal care provided by your maternity unit or midwife.
You will be told on the day, in person, and we will contact your maternity unit or GP with your consent so that follow-up is arranged quickly.

We can write the result in a sealed envelope if you are planning a reveal. Just ask at the start of the appointment.
If you are bleeding heavily, in severe pain, or concerned about reduced movements, do not wait for a private appointment. Contact your maternity unit or attend your nearest emergency department.
