Abdomen, pelvis, neck, soft tissues, joints and vascular studies under one roof.

Abdominal Ultrasound

Examines the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and the major abdominal blood vessels.

Commonly requested for

  • Upper abdominal pain
  • Suspected gallstones
  • Abnormal liver blood tests
  • Unexplained bloating or weight loss

How to prepare

Nothing to eat for 6 hours before the appointment. You may drink small amounts of water and should take any regular medication as normal.

Pelvic Ultrasound

Assesses the uterus, ovaries and bladder, or the prostate and bladder, depending on your anatomy.

Commonly requested for

  • Pelvic pain
  • Heavy or irregular periods
  • Suspected fibroids or ovarian cysts
  • Urinary symptoms

How to prepare

Attend with a comfortably full bladder. Drink one litre of water in the hour before your appointment and do not empty your bladder.

Abdomen & Pelvis Ultrasound

Both examinations in a single appointment, covering the upper abdominal organs and the pelvic organs together.

Commonly requested for

  • Generalised abdominal pain
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Investigation across both regions
  • GP request for a combined study

How to prepare

Nothing to eat for 6 hours beforehand, then drink one litre of water in the hour before your appointment and do not empty your bladder. The two requirements work together: fasting clears the upper abdomen, a full bladder opens up the pelvis.

Transvaginal Ultrasound

An internal scan giving a much clearer view of the uterus, ovaries and endometrium than is possible through the abdominal wall.

Commonly requested for

  • Pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding
  • Suspected fibroids, polyps or ovarian cysts
  • Fertility investigation
  • Early pregnancy assessment

How to prepare

Attend with an empty bladder. The scan is performed only with your consent, you may decline or stop at any point, and a chaperone is available on request. Please tell us when you book if you would like one arranged.

Thyroid Ultrasound

Images the thyroid gland, salivary glands and the lymph nodes of the neck.

Commonly requested for

  • Palpable neck lump
  • Thyroid nodule follow-up
  • Abnormal thyroid function tests
  • Persistent hoarseness

How to prepare

No preparation required. Please avoid wearing a necklace or a high-necked top.

Renal & Urinary Tract Ultrasound

Examines both kidneys, the ureters where visible, and the bladder before and after voiding.

Commonly requested for

  • Recurrent urinary infections
  • Blood in the urine
  • Suspected kidney stones
  • Impaired kidney function

How to prepare

Attend with a comfortably full bladder. Drink one litre of water in the hour before your appointment.

Scrotal & Testicular Ultrasound

A detailed examination of the testes, epididymes and surrounding structures, including blood flow.

Commonly requested for

  • Testicular lump or swelling
  • Scrotal pain
  • Suspected varicocele or hydrocele
  • Fertility investigation

How to prepare

No preparation required. A chaperone is available on request and can be arranged when you book.

Soft Tissue Ultrasound (Lump & Bump)

Characterises lumps and swellings anywhere in the superficial soft tissues.

Commonly requested for

  • Lump under the skin
  • Suspected lipoma or cyst
  • Localised swelling
  • Post-injury assessment

How to prepare

No preparation required. Please be able to expose the area being examined.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound

Dynamic assessment of tendons, muscles, ligaments, bursae and joints, examined in movement, which is something a static scan cannot show.

Commonly requested for

  • Shoulder pain or suspected rotator cuff tear
  • Tennis or golfer's elbow
  • Achilles or plantar fascia pain
  • Sports injury

How to prepare

No preparation required. Wear loose clothing that allows access to the area concerned.

Doppler Ultrasound

Measures blood flow through arteries and veins, including carotid, peripheral arterial and renal studies.

Commonly requested for

  • Carotid artery assessment
  • Poor circulation in the legs
  • Suspected arterial narrowing
  • Follow-up of a known vascular problem

How to prepare

No preparation required. Please wear clothing that allows the limb or neck to be exposed.

DVT / Venous Doppler

A focused examination of the deep and superficial veins of the leg, looking for clot and assessing valve function.

Commonly requested for

  • Suspected deep vein thrombosis
  • Painful or swollen calf
  • Varicose veins
  • Leg swelling after surgery or travel

How to prepare

No preparation required. Please wear clothing that allows the whole leg to be exposed. If you have a suspected DVT, contact your GP or an emergency department as well as booking with us, because a clot needs treating urgently.

Not sure which scan you need? Describe your symptoms on the enquiry form or call the clinic and we will advise. If ultrasound is not the right test for your symptoms we will say so, and point you back to your GP rather than sell you a scan that will not help.
